Ages 6-8: Listening and Responding to the Chatterbug

Goal: Help kids understand the Chatterbug isn’t always right.

Conversation Starter:

“Sometimes we all hear a voice in our head that says things like ‘You’re not good at that’ or ‘What if something bad happens?’ That’s just your Chatterbug talking. It’s trying to keep you safe, but often it goes overboard.

Can you think of a time when your Chatterbug might have been talking to you? What does it sound like?

It’s okay to talk about the Chatterbug. I have one too!”

Questions & Prompts:

“What kinds of things does your Chatterbug say when you're nervous?”

“Do you think the Chatterbug is always telling the truth?”

“What would you say to your Chatterbug to help it calm down?”

“The Chatterbug gets loud when it thinks you're in danger, even if you're just trying something new.”

“You can talk back to it kindly. You can say, 'Thanks for worrying, but I've got this.'“

“What kinds of things make your Chatterbug show up more often?”

“Can you draw a comic of you and your Chatterbug having a conversation?”

“What would a superhero say to your Chatterbug?”

“Have you ever helped a friend calm their Chatterbug?”

“If your Chatterbug had a job, what would it be?”
